KfW has many tasks. As a promotional bank, KfW Group supports change and encourages forward-looking ideas – in Germany, Europe and throughout the world. KfW promotes the investments of private individuals, municipal enterprises and public institutions. KfW finances projects of German and European companies so they can compete on global markets. KfW Development Bank and DEG support economic and social progress in developing and transition countries to help ensure the people there are better off. KfW carries out special tasks on behalf of the German Federal Government. These tasks range from the privatisation of German state-owned enterprises to the administration of old claims of the former GDR.
